At the first news of the spreading corona virus and our country’s leadership response to the outbreak, I was skeptical about the health risk posed by COVID-19 and a bit perplexed by the extent to which our national leadership has acted in response to what I viewed as a minimal threat to our population’s health and safety. I initially felt that the response was over-blown and fueled by media hype and I did not see the need to join in the hysteria. With only a few thousand cases in the U.S. at the time, I felt I was far more likely to come in contact with someone with the flu than with the corona virus.

However, at the time of writing this post, I discovered that my oldest son’s roommate has a co-worker who recently tested positive for COVID-19. That means his roommate could potentially be infected as well as my son and their third roommate. They are all now on self-imposed quarantine on the other side of the state from us until the results of their COVID-19 tests come back.

Had this co-worker not been confirmed as a COVID-19 carrier and my son and his roommates not self-quarantined, the virus could potentially have spread to my sister’s home where my oldest son works part-time as a home-school tutor and his grandmother also lives. His grandmother, who already has COPD and breathing issues, could have potentially been exposed to COVID-19 and would likely have become critically ill and been put in a life-threatening situation.

Thankfully, Emily and I have not been exposed to the virus and we are taking all of the common-sense steps recommended by the CDC and are prepared to avoid large gatherings for the duration of this outbreak and we encourage all of you to do the same particularly if you are in a high-risk demographic.

During this time we are offering a 5% discount to customers who would like to add our curtains to their social distancing strategy. Not only will you get some much needed privacy in your outdoor spaces but you can help minimize the spread of the corona virus while enjoying your time outdoors particularly if you have to self-quarantine.

Emily and I wish everyone the best as our people, our nation, and our leadership do what is necessary to beat this virus and get life back to normal.
